CourseGraphic This course is required for all persons who wish to be certified for pre-hospital care. This course contains class work and clinical experience. Students will learn transportation and care of patients, how to determine the nature and extent of illness or injury, advanced life saving skills including 12-lead EKG application and transmission, and automatic external defibrillation. Successful completion of all written and practical examinations as well as clinical experience can result in the student being certified as an Emergency Medical Technician by the State of Ohio. 
Admission requirements: CPR BLS-HCP card, current driver’s license, high school diploma or GED, and must be 18 years of age at time of testing.  National Registry testing fee is extra.
The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

Please read:  Mandatory Orientation 01/10/18 at 6:00 p.m. at Apollo. Schedule may vary. Syllabus will be handed out on first day. A copy of your HS diploma or transcripts or GED, current CPR BLS HCP card, and copy of drivers license needed. Must be 18 yrs of age. Testing fees extra.
